Materuni Waterfalls is one of the few villages of wonder in Northern Tanzania sitting at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro.
The village is blessed with full of all beauty worth visiting for holidays, weekend outings, or vacations.
While in the village, the scenic view of Moshi Town and Mount Kilimanjaro is astonishing.
This green village with fresh air from green vegetation welcomes visitors to explore the beauty of the land and the cultural heritage of the Chagga people.
Impressive Materuni Waterfalls
This very impressive Waterfall is one of the tallest in the area, spewing crystal-clear glacier water 70m into its basin.
The beautiful path leading to Materuni Waterfall is located 2500m above sea level It crosses valleys and hills covered by tropical rainforest, past coffee, banana, and avocado “shambas”, the Kiswahili word for farms.

When combined with a coffee tour in the village, it makes for a perfect day trip before or after your Mount Kilimanjaro climb.
With about eight kilometers of walking throughout the day and 300 meters of incline, this adventure is a great warm-up for the legs while also getting to immerse yourself in the local culture.
The tour begins by observing the entire process of making a cup of coffee, from seed to mug.
After a locally produced lunch, you head off to explore the massive Materuni Waterfalls.
DETAILS OF A DAY HIKE AND SWIMMING AT MATERUNI WATERFALLS
The village of Materuni is home to the Chagga tribe and is still a traditional tribal village.
It is just 15km from Moshi Town and the last village before the Kilimanjaro National Park.
Our English-speaking guide will pick you up in Moshi in the morning, and drive you to Materuni Village.
Upon arrival, you will register at the village office so that your trip can begin.
Your first stop will be the waterfalls, which are about a 40-minute walk away.
You will be informed about the culture of the Chagga, village life, and the surrounding fauna and flora along the way.
The views are truly breathtaking, and with any luck, you will see Mt.
The Kilimanjaro summit. As you approach the waterfalls, you will see that they are more than 80 meters high.
Swimming in the pool at the bottom of the waterfall is a refreshing experience, so don’t forget your swimsuit!
You then gradually return to Materuni village with your guide, where you will experience a Chagga lunch.
Guests will also be able to sample our locally produced banana beer – definitely not to be missed!
However, that’s not all. You’ll also have the opportunity to enjoy a cup of coffee.
You will learn how coffee is grown, dried, roasted, and processed here. You will also have the opportunity to participate in the process.
Coffee grinding is traditionally accompanied by Chagga songs and dances – a fun way to learn about the local culture.
Then you will say goodbye and return to the city.
