Mountain

Climb the route approaches Kilimanjaro from the west, beginning with an extended drive from Moshi to Londorossi Gate. From there, the primary two days are spent trekking through the rain forest to Shira Ridge.

The Lemosho route crosses the whole Shira Plateau from west to east during a pleasant, relatively flat hike. Crowds are low until the route joins the Machame route near Lava Tower.

Then the route traverses underneath Kilimanjaro’s Southern ice mass on a path referred to as the Southern Circuit before summiting from Barafu. The descent is formed via the Mweka route.

If you’re reading this, you’re probably interested in climbing Kilimanjaro on the Lemosho Route. The Lemosho Route is widely considered to be the best route on Mount Kilimanjaro. Not too long ago, there were only two main routes used to climb Mountain  – the Marangu (Coca Cola) route and the Machame (Whiskey) route.

The climb cost includes 

  • Transfers:
    • Pick-up and drop-off at Kilimanjaro International Airport;
    • Transfer to the trailhead – entry gate to Kilimanjaro National Park;
    • Pick-up at the exit from Kilimanjaro park and transfer to the hotel;

    Entry fees:

    • All park fees collected by the Kilimanjaro park ( conservation fees, camping fees, crew fees, vehicle fees, rescue fees, and everyone other fees collected by the Tanzania National Parks Authority).

    Accommodation:

    • One night at 3* hotel (Aishi Machame Hotel or Altezza Lodge) before the expedition and one night after; The hotels have everything for your comfortable stay – caring staff, nice rooms, reliable Wi-Fi, restaurant and swimming pool);
    • Tented accommodation on Kilimanjaro (modern, comfortable 4-Season tents North Face VE-25 or  Kilimanjaro Tents).

    Please note:
    All accommodation is on a sharing basis (i.e. you’ll be sharing together with your travel companion a twin/double room within the hotel and a tent during the hike. If you travel alone, we’ll match you with a same-sex adventurer).

    Meals:

    • Breakfast within the hotel before and after the hike;
    • All meals on the hike. Our Kilimanjaro diet includes energy-rich and highly nutritious meals prepared by our professional high-altitude cooks. A typical diet on Kilimanjaro includes different soups, garnishes, several sorts of fish and meat, fresh fruit and vegetables; vegetarian/gluten-free/halal options are available at no extra cost;
    • All drinks on the hike (coffee, tea, cocoa, and water).
    • Hiking and safety equipment
    • 2-inch (10-cm) thick and cozy sleeping mats;
    • All group equipment (spacious and cozy dining tent, camping table and chairs, crockery and cutlery);
    • Oxygen cylinders and oximeters;
    • GPS-tracking service;
    • Complete medical kits.

    Climbing crew:

    • Professional guides, licensed by Kilimanjaro park. All our guides are the holder of Wilderness First Responder or Wilderness care certifications. All our guides have 7+years of successful mountaineering experience;
    • Dedicated support crew (assistant guides, camp master, porters, cooks, etc.).

  1. Day 1 Arrival transfers from KIA-Hotel

    We will pick you up from Kilimanjaro International Airport to Kilimanjaro hotel for overnight

  2. Day 2 Rest Day

    We recommend at least one rest day before starting your trek and try to sleep because of different time zones, our guide he will give the briefing and check your trekking gears to make sure you have everything needed.

  3. Day 3 Drive to Kilimanjaro park Londorossi Gate, Hike to Mti Mkubwa Camp

    After breakfast and briefing, drive to Londorossi Park Gate (about a 3-hour drive). From here a forest track requiring a 4WD vehicle results in Lemosho Glades. Walk along forest trails to Mti Mkubwa (big tree) campsite.

  4. Day 4 Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira Camp 1

    After breakfast, we continue because the trail gradually steepens and enters the enormous heather moorland zone. After several streams are crossed we continue over the Shira Ridge past the Shira 1 camp and on to the Shira 2 camp on moorland meadows by a stream.

  5. Day 5 Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2

    We will hike today for 2 hours and reach 12,600 ft. After breakfast, a gentle walk across the plateau leads to Shira 2 Camp on moorland meadows by a stream. A variety of walks are available on the plateau making this an excellent day for acclimatization.

  6. Day 6 Hike Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp

    From the Shira Plateau, we still the east up a ridge, passing the junction towards the height of Kibo. As we continue, our direction changes to the South East towards the Lava Tower, called the ”Shark’s Tooth” (elevation 4650m/15,250ft). Shortly after the tower, we come to the second junction which matches to the Arrow Glacier. We now continue right down to the Barranco Camp. Although you finish the day round the same elevation as once you began, today is extremely important for acclimatization and can help your body steel oneself against summit day.

  7. Day 7 Hike Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

    After breakfast, we leave Barranco and continue on a steep ridge up to the Barranco Wall to the Karanga Valley and therefore the junction which connects with the Mweka Trail.

  8. Day 8 Hike Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

    We continue up to the Barafu Camp. you’ve got completed the South Circuit, which offers views of the summit from many various angles. Here we make camp, rest, enjoy dinner, and steel oneself against the summit day.

  9. Day 9 Hike Barafu Camp to Summit, right down to Mweka Camp

    Very early within the morning (midnight to 2 am), we continue our thanks to the summit between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers. You head during a northwesterly direction and ascend through heavy scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim.

    This is the foremost mentally and physically challenging portion of the trek. At Stella Point, you’ll stop for a brief rest and can be rewarded with the foremost magnificent sunrise you’re ever likely to ascertain. Faster hikers may view the sunrise from the summit.

    From Stella Point, you’ll encounter snow all the way on your 1-hour ascent to the summit. Once at Uhuru Peak you’ve got reached the very best point on Kilimanjaro and therefore the continent of Africa!

  10. Day 10 Hike Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate, drive to Moshi

    After breakfast, we continue the descent right down to the Mweka Park Gate to receive your summit certificates. At lower elevations, it are often wet and muddy. Gaiters and trekking poles will help. Shorts and T-shirts will probably be plenty to wear (keep rain gear and warmer clothing handy).

    From the gate, continue another hour to Mweka Village. A vehicle will meet you at the Mweka gate to drive you back to your hotel in Moshi (about 30 minutes).

  11. Day 11 Departure transfers

    Pick up from the hotel and transfer to KIA to say bye and welcome again.
